WYONG Shire Council backed and promoted the controversial Chappypie Chinese theme park for seven years despite a basic planning obstacle that stopped it from being approved, a confidential report has shown.
The amalgamated Central Coast Council ended a contract with Australia China Theme Park Pty Ltd in July after a scathing independent assessment found the project was not in the public interest, lacked significant information on traffic and other impacts, and could not be approved even if the council supported it.
